Start building the school timetable : After all the cards have been made for all of periods the proceeds off building the school timetable could begin. One by one each of the costs would be taken out from a box and transferred onto the wooden school timetable board. Each card had to be evaluated according to its own special materials. For example English must be placed on everyday with no more than two English periods per day. Each subject card was stick onto the board at its correct place. The process will this continue to off transferring the planning on to school timetable fixed board. Initially the process's went since there were no other cards placed on the boards. It also had to be made sure than that when a subject cards was placed but both the teacher and clause was available at the time.
Deadlocks : The more the board got filled up with subject cards the more difficult it became to place additional cards. Typically the first 90% was done with in the first hour with the last remaining 10% could take hours or even days to complete successfully. A deadlock arise often when a subject could not be placed because both close and teacher had other obligations for each of the periods. At this stage the timetable subjects had to be moved and manipulate until this card could be placed. This could have taken anything from a few minutes to a few hours to resolve. People's insights and intrusion was very important at this stage. Sometimes a deadlock could not be resolved and since no three periods is allowed on the timetable up and had to be made for this subject.
Transcribing off the school timetable : After the successful and tedious process of constructing the timetable the timetable building team still had to convey the new school timetable to the teachers and classes. At this point the timetable had to be transcribed from the wall onto individual class and teacher timetables. This again was a lengthy process with one teacher calling out the day and subject and another teacher filling it in on a piece of paper.
School timetable clashes : Clashes all is essentially when a mistake was made on the school timetable. Typically a teacher was placed for two different classes at the same time. The above process also served as a way to check will verify that no clashes existed on the timetable. Imagine the poor guys that off to transcribing almost the complete school timetable found a mistake and had to go back to the drawing board.
